Telia Norway said it has now completed 3G network shutdown following modernisation. The last 3G station on the 2100 MHz band was closed in June this year and now it has turned off its last 3G station using the 900 MHz band. The operator said it informed affected customers well in advance.
Georg Svendsen, head of infrastructure at Telia Norway, said that close to the border with Russia, there are restrictions on using 800 MHz frequencies and parts of the 900 MHz band, making it difficult to offer optimal 4G service. As Telia frees up 900 frequencies for LTE, people near the border will notice a big difference, he said.
In parallel with the 3G switch-off, Telia is constructing a 5G network, and aims to be the first operator with nationwide 5G coverage during 2023. Already 2 million Norwegians have access to 5G from Telia.
